Whoopi  |  Chicago Tribune “Kidnews” 05/31/94

I don’t mind creating to a specific topic. In this particular case, the conceptual conceit of the whole issue of that week was each story was going to feature a black woman, BUT it was not going to be mentioned until the following week. The idea being to introduce the young readers to who is actually being portrayed by their media (of course NOBODY actually working on “Kidnews” unless their were freelancers I wasn’t aware of, was a black woman, go figure).

Although I run these cartoons online in black and white, they did appear in color in the newspaper with the skin tones of my characters most often mixed in multi-ethnic shades, again limiting my potential re-print options in Klan newsletters.

Original art “sold”—sorry you missed it, buy something else from the site to ease your pain.
