In the days before “Fear Factor” the idea of eating worms seemed a bit more shocking...
For whatever reason seeing the trailer to the movie “Squirm” in 1976 and reading the book “How to Eat Fried Worms” a few years earlier really stuck in my pre-pubescent brain.
And let us not forget that black and white promotional still from Bert I. Gordons, “The Food of the Gods” of some sort of large mutant caterpillar/centipede crawling out of a kitchen drain onto a screaming woman’s arm. This image would inevitable pop into my head when out to dinner with my family eating my favorite really cheesy pizza at an Italian restaurant, wondering, “What if such a thing crawled into this kitchen when they were making my food, and nobody noticed? And it might be under this CHEESE!!!” all in all making me a bit nauseous; I opted not to share such visions with the rest of the table.
