Some cartoon respite from another brutal week or just another quartet of impotent cartoons in the face of tragedy... Hopefully more the former than the latter, but whadda I know? Today I’m going to go with the delusion, it’s better to present these pictographs to potential engaged readers rather than just hide them in a drawer.

Engaged (and/or “engorged”) readers are encouraged to click upon the black and white cartoons, which are this month scattered atop my blurry digital photo of Allen Toussaint in New Orleans (my career in celebrity photography, remains stunted). Editor’s note: Those clicking on the cartoons will see photos used in lieu of the normal wordier descriptions included with the cartoons. This might be the result of “writer’s block” or perhaps an interesting change of pace. Feel free to email your opinions and/or purchase original artwork.

I’ll leave you with a bit from John Darnielle’s “Last Plane To Jakarta” website 9/2/2005: “If you saw it, you know it was the best television moment since Prince kicked over the microphone stand at the 1985 American Music Awards. Almost immediately, the kind of people who can’t tolerate actual people expressing actual dissent in real-time began to put spin on Kanye West’s impassioned, emotional, and most importantly accurate outburst on NBC earlier this evening: they hauled out their abusive epithets as they always do. They’re especially fond of the word “disgusting”; I’d wager they’ve done some focus-group research on it. These are the same people who’re all for shrinking government until it comes to your bedroom, at which point they’re all about legislation. Whatever.... Let’s show love to a guy with the guts to go off-script and say it out loud.”
