Maybe I just wanted to draw a guy in a beekeeper’s suit, or perhaps some dim residual brain fog burbling up from what may have been the saddest 3rd or 4th grade book I ever read, “A Taste of Blackberries”. In a nutshell—a bee stings a kid’s best friend, and being allergic, he DIES! Haven’t looked at it since but it seemed very grim at the time, and put a little lump in my throat.

In this cartoon I am assuming the allergic reaction would not be fatal.

There may also be a whiff of the “Royal Jelly” episode of Ronald Dahl’s “Tales of the Unexpected” television series.

Original art available for $50.
